Zeke Smith served as Alabama Power’s executive vice president of external affairs before retiring effective Nov. 1, 2023. With more than 35 years of service with the company, Smith was responsible for environmental affairs, charitable giving, corporate affairs, governmental relations, public relations, and regulatory affairs. He also served as chairman of the Alabama Power Foundation’s Board of Directors. Prior to his most recent position, Smith served as vice president of financial and regulatory planning, vice president of regulatory services, and director of regulatory and pricing.

Smith graduated from Auburn University with a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering in 1982. He also earned a master’s degree in business administration from Samford University. He serves on the Samford University Board of Trustees, the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame Board of Directors, the Bryant-Jordan Foundation, the Auburn Engineering Alumni Council Executive Committee and on the Birmingham Bowl Executive Committee/Corporate Development team. He is a 2014 graduate of Leadership Alabama. 

Smith has been appointed to the state’s College and Career Ready Task Force, the Tornado Recovery Action Council of Alabama and, most recently, served as chair of the Alabama Workforce Council appointed by the governor. He has served as Alabama Power’s chairman and executive sponsor of various campaigns, including the United Way, American Heart Association and Boy Scouts of America.
